Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) — Android

The official FAQ for the White Noise Deep Sleep Sounds app on Android phones and tablets. Covering subscriptions, billing, using the app, and more. Using an iPhone or iPad? See the iOS FAQ.

💳 Subscriptions, Billing & Transfers

How can I cancel my Premium subscription?

Google handles all billing for Android users. You can easily cancel your trial or subscription at any time. To avoid being charged, please be sure to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Even after canceling, the 35 most popular sounds and most features will continue to work on the Free Forever plan!

  1. Open the Deep Sleep Sounds app, go to Settings > Manage Subscriptions, and tap Cancel Subscription.
  2. Alternatively: Open the Google Play Store app, tap your Profile icon in the top right corner, tap Payments & subscriptions, and select Subscriptions. Find White Noise Deep Sleep Sounds and tap Cancel subscription. For more help, view Google Play’s official cancellation instructions.

Important: Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. Be sure to cancel it in Google Play first.

How do I request a refund for an accidental purchase?

Because all payments are managed directly by Google, our support team does not have access to your billing information and cannot process refunds on our end. However, you can easily request a refund directly through Google Play:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your device.
  2. Tap your Profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then select Budget & history.
  4. Find the Deep Sleep Sounds purchase and tap on it.
  5. Tap Request a refund (or “Report a problem”) and choose the option that best describes your situation.
  6. Complete the form and submit your refund request.

(Alternatively, you can request a refund from your computer by visiting play.google.com, clicking on your profile icon, and navigating to Payments & subscriptions > Budget & order history. For more detail, view Google Play’s official refund policies.)

Is the app free or paid?

Both! We offer a Free Forever plan that includes 35 high-quality sounds that can play for up to 8 hours at a time. If you want to unlock all 400+ sounds, continuous playback, and premium features, you can upgrade to a Premium subscription.

How do I know which plan I am currently on?

You are on the Free Forever plan if:

You are on Premium (or a Premium trial) if all sounds are unlocked and the “Upgrade” button is gone.

I paid for Premium, but my sounds are still locked. How do I restore my purchase?

To restore a purchased app on an Android device, visit the Google Play Store and reinstall the app from there. Please ensure that the email account you are logged into on Google Play is the exact same email account you used when you originally purchased the app. Then:

  1. Open the app, navigate to Settings > Restore Purchases, and tap Restore.
  2. Restart your device to ensure the sync is complete.

Can I transfer my Premium subscription between iOS and Android?

Because the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store operate as entirely separate platforms, purchases cannot automatically sync or transfer between them. If you switch from an iPhone/iPad to an Android (or vice versa), your Premium subscription will not automatically transfer, and tapping “Restore Purchases” on your new device will not retrieve your account.

We are here to help! We know how important your sleep routine is, and changing devices shouldn’t disrupt that. Please reach out to our support team directly. While we cannot physically move the subscription between the two app stores, we can review your account and offer a manual solution—such as providing a special promo code—so you can quickly regain access to your Premium features on your new Android device.

🎧 Playing Sounds & Creating Mixes

How do I create a Mix, adjust volumes, or remove a sound?

You can combine sounds to create your own perfect sleep environment! (Free users can mix up to 2 sounds; Premium users can mix up to 10).

How do I save my favorite sounds?

While we don’t have a dedicated “Favorites” folder, you can easily access your top sounds by:

What do the Fader and Oscillator effects do?

What does “Auto Play” do?

When enabled, Auto Play immediately starts playing your last selected sound or mix the moment you open the app.

📱 Background Playback, Offline Use & Notifications

Can I listen to sounds while using other apps (like Spotify or Podcasts)?

Absolutely! To play our sleep sounds alongside your music, audiobooks, or sleep stories:

  1. Start playing your sound in Deep Sleep Sounds.
  2. Go to the Controls tab and turn on Background Audio.
  3. Open your other app and start playing your media.

Does the app work in the background or when my screen is locked?

Yes. The app will keep playing your sounds while you use other apps or when your screen is locked. It will only stop when your timer expires or if you pause it.

Can I listen to sounds offline or in Airplane Mode?

Yes, the app has built-in storage and works perfectly without Wi-Fi! To ensure a sound is available offline (like when traveling), you must listen to it at least once while connected to the internet. This automatically downloads it to your device. You can view and manage downloaded sounds in Settings > Manage Storage.

What happens if I get a phone call?

The app will respectfully pause your sleep sounds while the phone rings and during your call. Once the call ends, your sounds will automatically resume.

How do I turn off the notification sounds (like the loud cricket chirp)?

Our notifications are designed to inform you when exciting new sounds become available. If you would prefer not to receive these notifications, or simply want to disable the accompanying sound, you can adjust this in your Android settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications (or Settings > Apps).
  2. Find White Noise in your list of apps.
  3. Either turn off the notification sound or disable the notifications entirely. For more help, view Google’s official notification instructions.

How do I allow sounds to play while my phone is on “Do Not Disturb”?

To ensure you can hear your sleep sounds without being interrupted by phone calls or notifications, you can add an exception for the app:

  1. Go to your device Settings, tap Notifications, and then select Advanced.
  2. Find Deep Sleep Sounds in your list of apps, and turn on the “Do not disturb custom exception”.
  3. Alternatively: Swipe down from the top of your screen to turn on Do Not Disturb, and customize it in your settings to allow alarms and media while blocking all other notifications.

How do I delete downloaded sounds to free up storage space?

If you need to free up memory on your device, you can easily remove offline tracks directly from the app:

  1. Open the app and navigate to the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Manage Storage.
  3. To delete a single sound: Tap on the specific track you want to remove, then confirm by pressing Delete.
  4. To clear everything at once: Tap the Delete All button at the top of the screen to quickly remove all downloaded sounds.

Want to listen offline again later? No problem! To regain offline access to any of your favorite sounds, simply go back to the Sounds tab and play them once while connected to the internet. They will automatically redownload to your device.

⏰ Timers

Why does the sound stop, and how do I adjust the Timer?

The Free version of the app limits playback to 8 hours at a time. To adjust how long your sounds play, go to the Controls tab and tap the Timer icon.

🛠 Troubleshooting & Fixes

Why does the app keep shutting off in the middle of the night?

We know how frustrating a disrupted night’s sleep can be! Android power management often aggressively shuts down apps running in the background to save battery, especially on newer operating system versions. To fix this, you must exclude the app from your phone’s battery optimizations:

  1. Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > White Noise > Battery.
  2. Change the setting from “Optimized” to “Unrestricted”.
  3. For device-specific instructions (every Android manufacturer does this differently), we highly recommend visiting dontkillmyapp.com.

Additionally, placing your device into Airplane Mode before you start playing your sounds can prevent the system from getting loaded with background tasks that might shut the app off.

The app starts playing automatically when I connect to my car’s Bluetooth. How do I stop this?

On Android, this behavior is usually controlled by your phone’s Bluetooth settings rather than the app itself:

  1. Go to Settings on your phone, tap Connections, and then Bluetooth.
  2. Find your car’s Bluetooth device in the list and tap the gear/settings icon next to it.
  3. Turn off “Auto-connect” or “Media audio” for that device.

If that option isn’t available on your specific model, you can try limiting the app’s background activity by going to Settings > Apps > Deep Sleep Sounds > Battery and setting it to “Restricted”.

The app is freezing, crashing, or behaving unexpectedly. What should I do?

If the app is freezing or suddenly crashing, clearing the app’s cache can help resolve small glitches contributing to the behavior:

  1. Open your device Settings, scroll down and tap on Apps, and select Deep Sleep Sounds.
  2. Tap on Storage, then press the “Clear cache” button.
  3. If the issue persists, try force-closing the app or restarting your phone.

How do I completely uninstall the app from my Android phone?

To remove the app from your device:

  1. Go to your Home screen, press and hold the Deep Sleep Sounds app icon, and tap “Uninstall”.
  2. Alternatively: Open your device’s Settings, tap “Apps” (or “See all apps”), select the app from the list, and tap “Uninstall”. For more help, view Google Play’s official uninstall instructions.

Remember: Uninstalling the app does not cancel a Premium subscription — cancel it in Google Play first (see the billing section above).
