💳 Subscriptions, Pricing & Family Sharing
How can I cancel my Premium subscription?
You can easily cancel your trial or subscription at any time. To avoid being charged, please make sure to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. Even after cancelling, the 35 most popular sounds and most features will continue to work on the Free Forever plan!
Here is how to cancel depending on your device:
🍏 Apple App Store (iOS)
- Open the Deep Sleep Sounds app, go to Settings > Manage Subscriptions, and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Alternatively: Open your iPhone or iPad’s Settings app, tap your Name/Apple ID at the top, tap Subscriptions, select Deep Sleep Sounds, and tap Cancel Subscription. For more help, view Apple’s official cancellation instructions.
Not keen on subscriptions? We understand. Consider our paid-up-front app, Deep Sleep Sounds - Pro, which includes our most popular premium sounds and features for a one-off fee. You might also enjoy our simplified Fan Noise Sleep Sounds app.
🤖 Google Play Store (Android)
- Open the Deep Sleep Sounds app, go to Settings > Manage Subscriptions, and tap Cancel Subscription.
- Alternatively: Open the Google Play Store app, tap your Profile icon in the top right corner, tap Payments & subscriptions, and select Subscriptions. Find White Noise Deep Sleep Sounds and tap Cancel subscription. For more help, view Google Play’s official cancellation instructions.
How do I request a refund for a Premium subscription?
Because all payments are managed directly by Apple and Google, our support team does not have access to your billing information and cannot process refunds on our end. However, you can easily request a refund directly through your device’s app store by following the steps below.
🍏 Apple App Store (iOS)
Apple handles all billing and refunds for iPhone and iPad users. To request a refund:
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com in your web browser.
- Sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the subscription.
- Tap “I’d like to…” and choose “Request a refund” from the drop-down menu.
- Select the reason why you are requesting a refund, then tap Next.
- Select the Deep Sleep Sounds app from your list of purchases and tap Submit.
Note: Apple’s support team makes the final decision on all iOS refund requests, which typically takes 24 to 48 hours to process.
🤖 Google Play Store (Android)
Google handles all billing and refunds for Android users. To request a refund:
- Open the Google Play Store app on your device.
- Tap your Profile icon in the top right corner.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then select Budget & history.
- Find the Deep Sleep Sounds purchase and tap on it.
- Tap Request a refund (or “Report a problem”) and choose the option that best describes your situation.
- Complete the form and submit your refund request.
(Alternatively, you can request a refund from your computer by visiting play.google.com, clicking on your profile icon, and navigating to Payments & subscriptions > Budget & order history.)
Is the app free or paid?
Both! We offer a Free Forever plan that includes 35 high-quality sounds that can play for up to 8 hours at a time. If you’d like to unlock all 400+ sounds, continuous playback, and premium features, you can upgrade to a Premium subscription.
How do I know which plan I am currently on?
You are on the Free Forever plan if:
- You see a “crown” icon next to premium sounds in the sound list.
- You see an “Upgrade” button in the Controls tab.
You are on Premium (or a Premium trial) if all sounds are unlocked and the “Upgrade” button has disappeared.
How do I share my Premium Family Plan with my family (Apple only)?
If you purchased the Family Sharing plan, make sure your Apple Family Group is fully set up in your device’s settings. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/108380. Next, have your family member:
- Download the app from the App Store on their device.
- Open the app, navigate to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases.
Can I transfer my Premium subscription between iOS and Android?
Because the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store operate as entirely separate platforms, purchases cannot automatically sync between them. If you switch from an iPhone or iPad to an Android device (or vice versa), your Premium subscription will not automatically transfer, and tapping “Restore Purchases” on your new device will not retrieve your account.
We are here to help! We know how important your sleep routine is, and changing devices shouldn’t disrupt it. Please get in touch with our support team directly. Whilst we cannot physically move the subscription between the two app stores, we can review your account and offer a manual solution — such as providing a special promo code — so you can quickly regain access to your Premium features on your new phone.
🎧 Playing Sounds & Creating Mixes
How do I create a Mix, adjust volumes, or remove a sound?
You can combine sounds to create your own perfect sleep environment! (Free users can mix up to 2 sounds; Premium users can mix up to 10).
- To create a mix: Go to the Mix tab and press “Create Mix”. Then “Add Sounds”. Select the sound you wish to add.
- To adjust volume: From the mix, you can use individual volume sliders to adjust each track independently without changing your device’s master volume.
- To remove a sound: Tap the bin icon next to the track you wish to delete.
- To name a mix: Select the mix and then press the (…) button in the top right. Then tap “Rename”.
How do I save my favourite sounds?
Whilst we don’t have a dedicated “Favourites” folder, you can easily access your top sounds by:
- Saving them to a Mix. You can go straight to your Mix to play them immediately.
- Checking the Recently Played section at the top of the player screen.
- Adding the White Noise widget to your device’s home screen.
What do the Fader and Oscillator effects do?
- The Fader: Gradually lowers the volume to zero over a set period. Free users can set it for up to 1 minute; Premium users can set it for up to 1 hour. (Note: The fader has no effect in continuous play mode).
- The Oscillator: Slowly shifts the sound back and forth between your left and right speakers, mimicking a desk fan oscillating. If you find your sound fluctuating or shifting, this feature may be switched on! You can turn it off in the Controls tab. (Note: This feature is limited to 10 minutes on the Free version and does not work when playing a multi-sound Mix).
What does “Auto Play” do?
When enabled, Auto Play immediately starts playing your last selected sound or mix the moment you open the app.
📱 Background Playback & Offline Use
Can I listen to sounds whilst using other apps (like Spotify or Podcasts)?
Absolutely! To play our sleep sounds alongside your music, audiobooks, or sleep stories:
- Start playing your sound in Deep Sleep Sounds.
- Go to the Controls tab and turn on Background Audio.
- Open your other app and start playing your media.
Does the app work in the background or when my screen is locked?
Yes. The app will keep playing your sounds whilst you use other apps or when your screen is locked. It will only stop when your timer expires or if you pause it.
Can I listen to sounds offline or in Aeroplane Mode?
Yes, the app works perfectly without Wi-Fi! To ensure a sound is available offline (such as when travelling), you must listen to it at least once whilst connected to the internet. This automatically downloads it to your device. You can manage downloaded sounds in Settings > Manage Storage.
What happens if I receive a phone call?
The app will politely pause your sleep sounds whilst the phone rings and during your call. Once the call ends, your sounds will automatically resume.
How do I stop text and email notifications from waking me up?
To silence your phone’s beeps and vibrations whilst you sleep, we recommend one of three methods:
- Enable Do Not Disturb / Sleep Focus (Highly Recommended).
- Enable Aeroplane Mode (Great for saving battery life, too).
- Silence your ringer: On an iPhone, flip the physical switch on the side. On an iPad, tap the Mute icon in the Control Centre.
How do I delete downloaded sounds to free up storage space?
If you need to free up memory on your device, you can easily remove offline tracks directly from the app:
- Open the app and navigate to the Settings tab.
- Tap Manage Storage.
- To delete a single sound: Tap on the specific track you wish to remove, then confirm by pressing Delete.
- To clear everything at once: Tap the Delete All button at the top of the screen to quickly remove all downloaded sounds.
Want to listen offline again later? No problem! To regain offline access to any of your favourite sounds, simply go back to the Sounds tab and play them once whilst connected to the internet. They will automatically re-download to your device.
⏰ Timers & Automations
Why does the app stop playing, and how do I use the Timer?
The Free version of the app limits playback to 8 hours at a time. To adjust how long your sounds play, go to the Controls tab and tap the Timer icon.
- Free users: Set a timer for up to 8 hours.
- Premium users: Set a timer for up to 12 hours, or use continuous play.
How do I set the app to turn on automatically at bedtime?
Whilst the app doesn’t have a built-in alarm, iOS users can easily set this up using Apple’s Shortcuts app:
- Open Shortcuts and create a Personal Automation for your desired “Time of Day.”
- Add the action Open App and select Deep Sleep Sounds.
- Ensure Auto Play is turned on in the Deep Sleep Sounds settings so your sound starts immediately.
🛠 Troubleshooting & Fixes
Help! I upgraded to Premium or got a new phone, but my sounds are locked.
If you recently upgraded, reinstalled the app, or switched devices, you most likely just need to restore your purchase.
- Ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- Open the app, navigate to Settings > Restore Purchases, and tap Restore.
- Restart your device to ensure the sync is complete. (Note: If you are using multiple devices such as an iPhone and iPad, ensure both are signed into the exact same Apple ID, then follow these steps on the second device).
Why does the app keep stopping in the middle of the night?
We know how frustrating a disrupted night’s sleep can be! Here is how to fix unexpected drop-outs:
- iOS Users: Background glitches can sometimes interrupt audio. Force-close the app (swipe it up and off your screen), restart your device, and reopen the app. Also, double-check your Timer in the Controls tab to ensure it wasn’t accidentally set to a short duration.
- Android Users: Android’s power management can be overly aggressive and close background apps. To fix this, you must exclude Deep Sleep Sounds from your phone’s battery optimisations (visit dontkillmyapp.com for device-specific instructions). Leaving your phone on charge or in Aeroplane Mode can also prevent background interruptions.
The app starts playing automatically when I get in my car or connect to a Bluetooth device. How do I stop this? (Apple only)
To stop the app from auto-connecting to your car, open Deep Sleep Sounds, go to Settings > Advanced Bluetooth, and select your car’s speaker from the list. The app will stop attempting to play over your car audio or Bluetooth device.
My app freezes on Apple TV when the display turns off.
This is a known issue on Apple TV where the screen won’t restore after using the “display off” button. The current workaround is to force-quit the app and reopen it.
